FAQ

How do I choose an RFID card chip?

Start with your reader system, existing card type, required frequency and application. The chip should be confirmed before artwork or card production.

Are all RFID card chips compatible with all readers?

No. Reader compatibility depends on frequency, chip family, protocol and system configuration.

Can ZealTag supply different chip card options?

ZealTag can help compare suitable card chip options based on your project details. Share the reader model or required chip if available.

Can chip cards be custom printed and encoded?

Custom printing and encoding may be available depending on chip type and data requirements. Provide your artwork and encoding needs for confirmation.

What's the difference between MIFARE Classic and MIFARE DESFire chips?

MIFARE Classic uses simpler proprietary security and is common in basic access control and membership cards. MIFARE DESFire EV1/EV2 uses AES-based encryption and supports multiple applications on one card, suited for higher-security or multi-use projects. Confirm which family your reader system supports before ordering.

Can different chip types be produced in the same order?

Yes, different chip types can be produced as separate SKUs within the same order, but each chip type is manufactured and tested individually. Share your quantities per chip type for an accurate quote.

What are dual-frequency or dual-chip cards?

Dual-frequency cards combine two chip families, such as LF and HF, on a single card body for hybrid use cases like access control plus payment or tracking. Contact us for available chip combinations.

How do I know which frequency my chip needs?

Frequency is usually determined by your existing reader infrastructure: LF (125kHz) is common for older access control systems, HF (13.56MHz) covers MIFARE and NFC-based systems, and UHF (860-960MHz) is used for longer-range tracking. See our RFID card frequency guide for a full comparison.
